Renewable energy has become a source of concern for many people throughout the world. They are becoming concerned not only about the damage fossil fuels do to our environment but also the depletion of those non-renewable energy sources. As a result more companies are choosing to do their part in creating a safer environment and assuring we have enough energy to maintain the future of the world.

It’s important for companies to do their part because of several reasons. First, the industrial sector is one which is often most guilty of pollution and energy consumption. Thus, when they do what they can to change their ways it can make a huge impact on the environment. Some companies are very vocal with their environmentally friendly practices others do their part in a very quiet way. It’s important for consumers to be aware of the companies who are interested in helping the environment, however.

While there are many more “Green Power Partners” as defined by the EPA, the top five companies are as follows:

1. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ-INTC) A total of 51% (1.4 billion KWh) comes from clean energy sources.

2. Kohl’s Department Stores (NYSE-KSS) All of its electricity (1.3 billion KWh) are derived from clean energy.

3. Pepsi Co (NYSE-PEP) All electricity (1.2 billion KWh) is derived from clean energy sources.

4. Whole Foods Market (NASDAQ-WFM) 105% (790 million KWh) of the electricity it uses come from sources of green power.

5. City of Houston, Texas 34% (438 million KWh) of its electricity is derived from clean energy and green power.

More companies are making the move into green energy and with those move comes the need for more employees. Those who have a concern for the environment and the future of our energy sources are making the move to companies who share their ideals.

Wind, marine and solar energy are three of the most common forms of renewable energy and those with which most people are familiar. With a real push toward doing the right thing and with many business grants and loans available to those interested in renewable energy research and companies, there are many jobs being created in the renewable energy sector.

There is no substantial difference in the performance of jobs but rather the fuels that power the equipment which operates those jobs. Even web hosting services are using renewable energy sources to run the servers that provide Internet access to millions of companies and individuals on a daily basis.

Green energy is not only safer for the environment but also for those who live, work and play around those energy sources. Instead of the fumes that surround natural gas and oil we can use the sun’s energy.

The Amish have the right idea with many still creating their own source of energy using wind mills. After seeing how successful the wind energy methods can be, many new companies are hitting the scene trying to properly harness wind power and with them they are bringing many new research and operational jobs with them.

Overall, with the government still on board to help those who wish to enter the renewable energy sector, it’s expected more jobs will continue to open up in the industry.

Concerns about the future of our environment are causing many companies to look into renewable energy sources. Utility companies in many areas are making concentrated efforts to use renewable energy sources for the power they provide to customers.

They are building new power plants that operate on solar or wind power instead of fossil fuels. While this conversion is quite expensive to undergo, it will provide clean and inexpensive power sources when the projects are completed.

Of course, the government offers many grants and financial options for companies interested in converting. This fact alone can help renewable energy projects continue to grow in number and in success. After all, it only makes sense for companies to convert their operations to renewable energy processes if they will be reimbursed or even compensated by the government for doing so.

In these cases, it’s a win-win situation for everyone involved. The world benefits and the company can benefit as well. They don’t have to pay for conversion, they can do their part and they often get tax credits for agreeing to do so.

Other companies are taking the initiative to convert to solar or wind power as well. These changes will not affect the way they operate; they simply need to convert their present equipment to accommodate these renewable energy sources.

Colorado State University is working with experts in Denver to develop new and innovative ways to use wind energy. These efforts will not be overnight by any means but they will have a definite effect on the future of our world and its current non-renewable energy sources. There are many other efforts currently in the planning stages throughout the world.

While most of us don’t think of it, trash and solid waste can be converted into renewal energy. After all, who could think trash and solid waste would be useful for anything but filling up garbage dumps? While it may seem a little unusual, these sources are readily available and do not have an affect on the environment if they are properly controlled.

Unlike fossil fuels, there is no need to worry about depleting the earth’s natural resources because there will always be trash and solid waste to burn for the creation of energy. Creating energy from these abundant materials not only provides another source of renewable energy but also reduces the amount of trash and solid waste in our environment. Of course, those in rural areas have been using trash as energy for years. But, this new push is looking more toward larger scale energy from trash and solid waste.

It’s essential when burning trash or solid waste for energy to make sure you are careful not to burn toxic waste and to ascertain the fumes do not escape into the air and cause environmental issues. Plants that make energy from these sources (called MSW plants) are heavily controlled by the Environmental Protection Agency and must follow strict guidelines during the creation of energy.

As more sources of renewable energy develop more provisions will be necessary for plants that generate energy from trash and solid waste. Of course, there also may be more grants and financial reimbursements from the government for those who choose to go into the trash or solid waste energy field coming soon.

Farmers are at the forefront of demanding more federal assistance for the practice of sustainable agriculture. In the past they were relatively alone in their cause, but lately more and more agriculturally minded go-green environmentalists are joining their cause. Switching over to sustainable agriculture is no longer a cause reserved for a niche, but instead now also includes a number of chefs, economists and agriculturists with a vested interest in seeing sustainable agriculture become a reality sooner rather than later.

The driving force behind the sustainable agriculture movement is the need for a boost in the economic well being of rural economies, while at the same time acknowledging natural resources are not endless. This calls for a different treatment of animals, cultivation of the soil so as to preserve it and the natural infusion of biological agents which will nourish and enrich the earth. In a very real way, this already includes a lot of the suggestions environmentally conscious individuals have made for years.

Although there are some in rural communities who are eyeing the clamor for sustainable agriculture with a bit of suspicion (after all, it does require a change in the way business is being done) those who are on the forefront of the movement say it is time to get away from the status quo. Organic food production, healthier means of farming, the use of sustainable energy, conservation of water and a more natural means of storing the goods all go into the sustainable agriculture movement.

The nation’s main laboratory for renewable energy is The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The lab focuses on energy efficient research and development and has a mission to stay focused on advancing the U.S. Department of Energy's goals for America.

All researchers at the facility support the market’s objectives to fast forward research from being simply scientific in nature to being market-viable as alternative energy solutions for all of America. The NREL’s research and technology development areas focus on the understanding of renewable resources, the conversion of the renewable resources to electricity/fuel and the manner of being able to use this energy in homes, buildings and automobiles.

The research and development areas of NREL specialize in renewable electricity, renewable fuel, integrated energy system engineering and strategic energy analysis. The teams of researchers and developers have won 42 R&D 100 awards, showing how they are well respected in their field of study.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratories first opened in 1977 and was called the Solar Energy Research Institute. In September 1991, it was designated as the national laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The institute’s name change occurred during this transition.

It remains the principle research lab and facility for the Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. In addition, it works with the Office of Science and the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability. The entire National Renewable Energy Laboratories is managed by the Alliance for Sustainable Energy, LLC.

With the demise of the American car industry such as it is now, manufacturers are looking for the next thing on the horizon to keep their companies out of bankruptcy. It would appear hydrogen powered vehicles are fitting the bill and already there is a call to have hydrogen powered vehicles replace those running on fossil fuels which are currently polluting the environment. Since hydrogen is not implicated in any harmful activities when burned – unlike carbon monoxide in gasoline powered cars – it is widely believed to be the substance of the future.

Before you go out looking for hydrogen powered vehicles, however, consider that the process required to make these cars a reality is still rather costly. As such, manufacturers cannot hope to make any profit with their hydrogen powered vehicles until and unless they manage to greatly reduce their overall cost to the consumer. This accounts for the vast amount of experimentation currently going on in the car industry and also related industries.

While there have been rumors at least one major American car manufacturer will produce hydrogen powered vehicles by 2010, the odds are good recent industry upheaval will put these plans by the wayside. This opens up the race to the national scene and it is only a matter of time until one of the big competitors will take the bull by the horns and devise a viable product. Since the market is ready and consumer behavior is decidedly shifting toward greener shores, the motivation is undoubtedly there.

Should there be a discussion of old school energy policy – conservation – saving the forests in the 19th century and also the use of at-home means of cutting back? In the past it was considered the only feasible means of reducing a household’s energy intake.

Unfortunately, even a momentary lapse in dedication to the cause results in a reneging on the actual energy savings; what is more, in some cases a homeowner who is not entirely well versed in old school energy policy – conservation – saving the forests in the 19th century, and green living, actually may do more harm than good.

To this end, old school energy policy is no longer considered the only form of reliable conservation, and saving the forests in the 19th century is now recognized as a national problem rather than simply a neighborhood issue.

This necessitates the recognition and introduction of renewable power options, such as solar, wind, biofuel and of course also hydroelectric power. It is only when sufficient funds may be allocated to this venture, and of course 20th century forest concerns are combined with these issues, that change can have a chance of actually becoming popular enough to take a more permanent hold.

The United States is full of renewable resources within the geographical environment of the land. Some states are doing a better job than others tapping into these resources and using them to their environmental advantage.

Some experts feel politics has a big impact on which states excel in this area and which fail. With commitment from political leaders, it appears states are moving to the forefront of the issue and gaining great success. Here is a list of the top 5 states in the US for renewable energy use.

1) California: With an environmentally conscious leader (Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger) at the forefront of this large state, California is emerging as the undeclared winner in the renewable energy race. The state also has the most aggressive approach to greenhouse-gas reduction goals when compared to all other states in America.

2) Texas: This state contains the world’s biggest wind farm which can generate more electricity from wind than any other state in America. Thus, they come in as a close second due to their amazing wind power capabilities.

3) Massachusetts: With Boston being of the “greenest” cities in America, this state is making good use of environmental incentives.

4) Colorado: One major reason why Colorado is coming into the top states regarding renewable energy is because of Vestas Wind Systems. This company has opened four new plants in the state and is known for being the world's leading supplier of wind turbines.

Green house gases are gases which are composed of water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane and other components. These gases are in the atmosphere and they both absorb and emit radiation within the thermal infrared range.

These gases trap heat within the earth’s surface. Naturally occurring gases help to heat the earth making it a habitable temperature. Unfortunately due to human kind producing unnaturally occurring green house gases in increasing amounts there is the effect of a rise in global temperature (global warming).

This rise in temperature is causing climate changes such as floods, droughts and other extreme weather conditions such as tsunamis. Other effects from these gases and the temperature increase are glacier retreat, arctic shrinkage, sea level rise and possible species extinction, such as the struggling population of the once thriving polar bear.

With ongoing studies and research being performed we are beginning to understand our mistakes that we have made in the care of our environment and our planet. With each new finding we are now under the realistic understanding we are killing our planet, the animals that live here and ourselves through our actions.

We have to make the leap into action in using our renewable resources in place of our use of fossil fuels in order to slow down the harmful effects that we have caused. Knowledge is power and putting that knowledge to practice may help to save our world for future generations. It is up to our generation here and now to put this process in motion so there will be a future for us all.

The idea of nuclear energy can be a difficult concept to grasp. However, the basics of getting electricity from nuclear energy can be simplified for better understanding. Basically, nuclear energy is the specific energy which is located in the core (the nucleus) of an atom.

Most people remember learning how atoms are the tiny particles of matter which make up all things in the universe. The energy found in the core (nuclear energy) can be utilized as electricity, if it’s released properly.

There are two main ways to release energy from atoms: nuclear fusion and nuclear fission. During nuclear fusion, the energy is released because atoms are combined or fused together (forming a larger atom). The sun produces energy with nuclear fusion processes.

Nuclear fission is the process of splitting atoms apart to form smaller atoms, which also releases energy. This type of energy release is used at nuclear power plants to produce electricity.

About 19 percent of the American electricity is generated at nuclear power plants. According to a study done in 2007, there are 66 nuclear power plants in the United States. Traditional power plants use the burning of fuel to produce energy.

However, nuclear power plants use any heat given off during nuclear fission as their “fuel” for power. The fission process takes place in the power plant’s reactor.

Most environmentalists are very interested in converting all power plants to nuclear power plants, as the process is more Earth-friendly. It is expected many power plants will convert to nuclear power in the next fifteen years, as a result.

Ecological novices don't always understand what renewable energy means. Like man go green fads before this time, it may just be a new idea could come and go with ease. To sit down and face realism, this source of energy is up to much stipulation from the government. The definition of renewable energy is simple; it is a form of energy that is replaced with any physical or unnatural interferences.

Examples of such resources that underscore the definition of renewable energy are sunlight, hydropower, and to a lesser extent also wood. Since the latter is very slow in being replenished, it is not usually counted among naturally replaceable energy resources, keeping it from actually being a form a renewable energy. Extracting energy from the earth should have little to no impact on our environment and it does not take a huge amount of energy to turn green energy into electricity you can use at home.

Businesses are gearing for the change in understanding of how energy works. To this end, wind farms and solar panel stations are now following the definition of renewable energy and seek to offer consumers eco friendly electricity as part of the energy they offer. it is not unusual to see a number of homes with solar panels, and some even with smaller wind turbines.

In the 1980s, renewable energy were hailed as the clean energy source of tomorrow. This was called into question almost as soon as it was asserted, and as a result, nuclear energy options were taken off the table in a large number of communities. Residents cite a fear of radiation as one of the main reasons why they do not want to have this kind of technology sitting in their neighborhoods or close by.

In the wake of the Chernobyl accident, the fear of nuclear meltdowns and release of toxic substances into the air also caused a lot of hesitancy in the minds of consumers. Proponents of nuclear energy options assert that the mass casualties projected in the case of a catastrophe pale when compared to the quantified casualties caused by the various ailments brought on by fossil fuel pollution and everyday health hazards, but residents of targeted communities see this as the kind of Mephistophelean bargain they are just not ready to engage in.

Truth be told, there are good reasons to give renewable energy options a second look. Advances in processing, safety, and regulation have made this a cleaner energy option. What is more, because of the enhanced accountability to residents, more oversight would govern the building and operation of reactors. On the downside, if a disaster were to occur, the dire projections of detractors would still be true. This alone has residents upset when even just the possibility of having a reactor in their vicinity is mentioned.

With so much talk about environmental responsibility, there is a recession in progress. As such, there is the question if it is true growth in renewable energy is declining? Private industry is usually the driving force behind the generation of a new technology, but at this point it is woefully absent. So, is growth in renewable energy declining?

The answer is a somewhat frustrating, ?maybe.? While private industry is not nearly as gung-ho over the idea of gambling large chunks of operating capital on new forms of technology which may or may not catch on, governmental intervention has worked hard to sweeten the deal. When faced with the question ?is growth in renewable energy declining,? various governmental entities are quick to point out because of various incentive programs, it is actually taking off.

Who is right? Depending on your perspective, you may be tempted to believe the federal government. The incentive programs are indeed tempting for private companies with some liquid assets at their disposal, and it stands to reason that any company which can carve out a niche early on in this business is sure to be prosperous in the long run.

In the short term, however, there are cash strapped consumers to consider. It is the customer without the needed money for home improvements that might throw a monkey wrench into the machinations over renewable energy. If there is nobody to purchase the technology, then no government incentive program can sustain the industry that goes out on a limb to provide it to unqualified customers.

Homeowners are looking into alternative energy sources for powering their homes. Solar energy has been around for a while, and if you drive through residential neighborhoods, you are sure to find solar panels on a good many homes.

Yet recently, small wind turbine options have begun to generate some interest, in part because they are considered to be a lot less intrusive than the solar panel options. In simplest terms, the wind turbine is installed on a sufficiently high pole to garner the maximum amount of wind.

Although small wind turbine options have the ultimate goal of lending self sufficiency to a home, the reality holds that homeowners are not yet quite ready to get off the grid. Instead, in areas where the wind frequently goes below seven to 10 miles per hour, the grid is required to supplement the energy required by the home. The more wind there is in the area, the more energy is produced, and the less electricity must be purchased.

Such small wind turbine options are very attractive in coastal regions or areas where wind is a common occurrence. Savings are estimated to be right around 50%-90% of the overall electricity bill, but only if there is sufficient wind.

There is, of course, a downside to the technology. To really realize the full savings possible, the installation of a bigger wind turbine is required, making this a less than useful item for a densely populated urban area. Some homeowners have decided to couple their solar panels with a small wind turbine, thereby maximizing on the space they do have available.

Organizations are readying themselves in being aware of how certain energy can perform for them. To this end, wind farms and solar panel stations are now following the definition of renewable energy and seek to offer consumers eco friendly electricity as part of the energy they offer.

Homeowners themselves are also beginning to harness this form of energy on larger scales, and it is not unusual to see a number of homes with home solar panels, and some even with smaller wind turbines.

There is much talk about renewable energy credits, but do you really know what these green tags are all about? In simplest terms, one of these renewable energy credits is a documented proof one megawatt hour of electricity was derived from a renewable energy source. These credits may then be bought and sold, and ultimately the owner of one of these credits has the authorization to claim ownership of renewable energy.

Industries initially eyed renewable energy credits with apprehension, but when tax incentives actually made the ownership of renewable energy a much coveted transaction, they quickly came on board with the idea and changed their ways of doing business. In return, the renewable energy credit program successfully brought about the changes in big business they sought.

Moreover, those who understand renewable energy credits also understand they provide copious green jobs. After all, the renewable energy source must be harnessed and wind farms (one example of a renewable energy methodology) require personnel to maintain the equipment and to certify the energy generation. Other qualifying technologies are solar electricity, geothermal energy and of course hydropower.

While these credits are here to stay, there is a good chance that the incentives administered by the program will increase. As such, business owners and also consumers will do well to be on the lookout for new credits, further discounts on equipment and state incentives. In some cases, this business opportunity has given rise to new home based businesses as well.

Exploring the top five sources for renewable energy leads to an in depth examination of tidal and wave power, solar technology, wind energy, chemically derived energy and energy storage. While these are touted as the top 5 sources for renewable energy, there has not be significant fiscal backing for them which would encourage and fund the availability for the average household.

Granted, at this point solar energy – at the forefront of the top five sources for renewable energy – is the horse on which private industry and public officials are betting, but overall there is little guarantee it will yield sufficient results on a mass scale. What is more, the technology is still so prohibitively priced that not many homeowners are ready and willing to switch over.

This has led to the discussion that a search for the top five sources for renewable energy should actually focus more on region specific energy sources. For example, desert areas prone to high winds and endless sun will be served well with wind power and solar energy, while coastal regions may greatly profit from the use of tidal and wave power.

Rather than focusing solely on one aspect of renewable energy, this multi faceted approach would permit for the concurrent development of a variety of potentially lucrative and environmentally friendly means of energy generation. Of course, the downside is the cost involved at the onset. This in many ways has caused the majority of funds to be allocated to only one rather than the top five sources for renewable energy.

Dealing with the current condition of the environment and the rising prices and less renewable energy, the word is searching for new methods to 'go green'. Scientists are researching for innovative methods to extract available natural energies.

As these renewable energy technologies are developed, there will be new jobs developed to build and maintain them. This includes scientists, ecologists, geologists and biologists, but also includes other professions such as architects, lawyers, doctors, construction workers, and workers in farms and factories.

It is important we all pull together to best serve mankind and make sure we have renewable sources for many years to come. Programs are now being offered by many colleges and universities on various methods of using our natural power sources.

These programs also concentrate on the discovery of new methods in which to use these sources. A lot of 'green' businesses are now giving on the job instruction for people who work for them.

Although it is clearly advantageous at the moment to create new jobs, a lot of people think we're dealing with a means of losing money for other large businesses as natural power sources are, in fact, free. People get excited.

The people that loose their jobs from outsourcing are definetly not so excited about it. It is possible that there will be more people without jobs after original sources are brought to the front and commonly used worldwide.

You may have heard it said, monitoring your energy use makes dollars and cents. But, did you know it also makes sense? Energy use is generally defined as the residential consumption of electricity for the sake of powering appliances and conveniences.

Yet, did you know monitoring your energy use goes far beyond just electricity? It’s also important to think about your consumption of gasoline, natural gas used for heating and cooking and water.

In some states (such as California), water usage is already curtailed for the sake of conservation. But, environmentalists contend that monitoring your energy use is directly affected by your ability to also watch your water usage, simply because of the energy associated with getting potable water to you in the first place.

To a staunch environmentalist, the use of any good or service brings with it the opportunity to make a positive or negative choice when it comes to having an environmental impact.

Even if you are one of the consumers who might not be quite as concerned about the environment, monitoring your energy use make a lot of sense, especially if you are also keeping an eye on your expenses. Energy usage is usually broken down into several tiers, and crossing over into a higher tier leads to an increase in cost.

This can be at times rather significant, making energy conservation a cost saving measure. Even small steps, such as the installation of a kill all switch for the evenings when you no longer anticipate any further electricity use, can have a huge impact in the long run.

Talk about eco travel, and the odds are good you are going to look into faces of those envisioning long beards, hitchhiking and perhaps also vegetarianism. To tell the truth, eco travel is a simple practice which allows everyone to participate, no matter what their overall lifestyle may be. Sure, for some their participation in eco travel leads to other eco friendly lifestyle expressions. But, for others is just simply eco travel and nothing more.

In simplest terms, eco travel could be little more than using public transportation during the next vacation getaway. Whether you get to your destination with the help of trains, buses, metros, or instead rely on this form of transport once you arrive at your target destination does not matter. Instead, what matters is the fact you cut down on car usage. Some eco travelers actually get to be so savvy that they begin carrying foldable electric scooters or bikes in their car trunks. This allows for inner city transport without the car.

Others see their eco travel experience as a time to give something back, and thus will take it upon themselves to clean up a campsite to make it look cleaner than when they found it. There is no organized eco travel movement or feel good publication dedicated to these quiet heroes. Instead, it is a moment just between the traveler and nature. Is it not time you explored the eco traveler in you and let her or him come out and explore nature?

Geothermal energy in Iceland is the proof alternative energy is already here and can be a quite lucrative field to get into. What is more, the vast fields in the Icelandic regions show that with clever planning, this kind of energy can easily and consistently supply the needed energy on a continuous basis, simply by working with the locale’s placement on the globe.

Looking to the generation and use of geothermal energy in Iceland as an example for the endless possibilities not nearly sufficiently exploited in the United States, it does bear mentioning there are already 43 such fields in the US. Granted, in comparison with the geothermal energy in Iceland, America does not come close in productivity and functionality.

On the other hand, it is noteworthy even the gradual exploration of this energy vehicle is a step in the right direction. There is little doubt that the energy use is going to be expanded on in the near future. Already there is talk of green collar jobs may be needed to harness this power source. Since it is only sparingly used at this point, this might actually be the birth of an entirely new industry.

The Colorado River and Hoover Dam are examples of the powers this renewable energy source may one day harness when electricity is not very often mentioned. At times it appears as though there is the concern any kind of energy sourcing which incorporates the nation’s major waterways and also national treasures is off limits. This is a long standing practice which thus far has protected much of the natural beauty that is the US.

Granted, environmental impact is a very serious concern when discussing the production of electricity such as hydroelectric - the Colorado River and Hoover Dam are homes to some of the most beloved and unique wildlife in the nation. But, the advantage most certainly does outweigh the concerns. This is especially true if the environmental impact can be minimized.

Green collar jobs being generated at this time hope to change the view of the public on energy that is hydroelectric - the Colorado River and Hoover Dam may become proving grounds. With grant monies allocated from federal and state budgets, there is little doubt that this discussion will soon move front and center into the American mainstream. In the course of these discussions, it is the hope of everyone involved nature will remain pristine.

For some of us the term Global Warming has still not hit home. For those who just “don’t get it”, it sadly does matter. Our world is changing around us and not for the better. The polar ice caps which have been around since the ice age are retreating.

The arctic is shrinking as the ice melts away and falls into the rising sea. Perhaps the water is not yet at your doorstep, but it is already affecting life around us. Species which once thrived such as the polar bear are growing close to extinction.

Their home is disappearing at an alarming rate. For many of us we have always thought of the arctic as being icy and cold and polar bears being alive and well.

If we do not make changes in our lives to better our environment, the children of the future will look at the polar bear as many of us do the Dodo bird or the Tasmanian tiger, extinct and nothing more than a picture in a book.

If you are not an animal lover you are still being affected by global warming. Sea levels are rising and our future is bleak. California, Texas and Florida will no longer be up for your summer vacation retreat. These areas will be submerged in water from the melting ice caps. Our world has been through severe changes in climate before, such as the ice age.

We are now on the other end of the scale and as our planet heats up it is going to effect us all. We can admit our faults in the creation of this event and we can learn from our mistake and move toward change.

Change to improve the way we live our lives in conjunction with our planets health. This is a part of what each of us must step up and do what is right in conserving our resources and practice using renewable resources for a life and a future of hope.

President Obama and the plan to refit Federal buildings with renewable power generating hardware are garnering an appreciable momentum as the country is becoming more ecologically minded. Green energy and sustainable materials are on the forefront of many a mind. Thus, there are the obvious benefits associated with this form of alternative energy.

There are other benefits, which are mentioned in conjunction with Obama and the plan to refit Federal buildings, namely the generation of a new niche of jobs. Green collar jobs, an interesting moniker attacked to employment opportunities related to anything having to do with sound energy generation. They are said to receive huge funding boosters from both federal and state budgets.

This showcases a new trend in education as well as vocational job training. Moreover, when President Obama and the plan to refit Federal buildings become more tangible and the contracts are bid, there is a good chance that these jobs will command good salaries.

Those in the know suggest this process is sure to have a big role in helping a tanking economy turn around. After all, contractors and those in the various construction related fields currently out of work may be able to apply their skills to this new technology.

There are three main power plant technologies used today in geothermal power plants. These technologies are used to convert hydrothermal fluids to electricity. Each type depends on the state of the fluid and its temperature.

Dry steam power plants were the first geothermal power plants of their kind. They traditionally use steam to produce electricity. This is done by taking steam from the geothermal reservoir and routing it through turbine units. The most common types of these plants are flash steam plants where water is pumped at high pressures at the surface.

Binary cycle geothermal power generation plants are different from dry steam plants and flash steam plants. Throughout a binary cycle geothermal power operation the water or steam never touches the turbine units. Most contain moderate-temperate water. The fluid and a secondary “binary” fluid with a lower boiling temperature pass through a heat exchanger.

Throughout the process the heat from the first fluid causes the binary fluid to flash to vapor, and the turbines are then driven. This system is ideal because it’s a closed-loop operation. This means nothing is emitted into the air, which makes it greener than other options overall. In addition, the lower temperature water is more common as a geothermal resource.

The benefits associated with geothermal power plants are abundant. In the world’s mission to become more environmentally efficient and “greener”, these power plants are becoming more and more popular.

Climate change is a long-term significant change in the expected patterns of what we consider average weather in any one specific region. This is a significant occurrence over a period of time. Climate change can be seen in abnormal variations in temperature, weather, etc. We have seen this first hand in the severity of hurricanes, tsunamis’ and earthquakes around the globe.

Our planet’s temperature is increasing and with this rise in temperature our planet is changing. The arctic is melting and species are being threatened with extinction. Scientists are predicting flooding that will submerge well-known cities across the globe.

With this knowledge it is not surprising to hear our new president speaking of furthering our efforts to make environmental change a reality. Not because it is a popular life style choice but because it is a necessity to sustain and preserve life for man and beast alike. For, it is in fact the fault of mankind that our planet and its inhabitants are suffering.

Since the rise of the industrial revolution in the 18th-19th century green house gases have risen to levels that we now see the effects of. It is disgusting to think that we are killing the place we call home with aerosols, pollutants, and man made chemicals and such.

We have to make a change in the way we heat and light our homes. We have to find clean fuel sources for our transportation. We have to reuse, reduce and recycle all the time and not just when we are feeling guilty about not doing it. The future of this beautiful planet is in our hands.

Geothermal energy is energy generated from the heat stored in the earth. This energy resource is a renewable resource, which is a natural resource naturally replenished such as sunlight, rain or wind.

Geothermal energy is most commonly used through Binary Cycle power plants. Pumps are used to pump hot water from a geothermal well in the earth to a heat exchanger, which cools the water and returns it to a reservoir.

Being geothermal power is naturally occurring, it produces essentially no GHG (Green House Gases) emissions. This energy resource is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week unlike wind, water and solar resources. This is a resource for energy available indefinitely, unlike the use of fossil fuels such as oil and coal.

Geothermal energy is used around the globe throughout several countries, but it is widely used in the Philippines (the largest consumer of geothermal energy) and Iceland. Eighty-seven percent of the homes in Iceland are heated with geothermal energy provided by power plants such as Nesjavellir. Geothermal plants are also within the United States.

Three examples include Mammoth Lakes, CA, Steamboat Springs, NA, Hilo, HA. The Geysers, which is a geothermal field in California has been in use since 1960. The West Ford Flat Power Plant is one of 21 plants which provide geothermal electricity to Sonoma, Lake, Mendocino, Marin and Napa counties.

Though this energy resource is available other resources are in running consideration for more popular and wide spread use in the future. Through further exploration and use of this natural resource we may one day use such an energy source to power our homes and communities in a healthy and efficient manner through the use of geothermal energy.

If you’re interested in homemade methods of producing power, you’ll be excited to know a homebuilt wind power generator is not as difficult to build as it sounds. Because the rising energy costs and repercussions are likely here to stay, wind power is very attractive to everyone.

With commercial wind farms being set up all over the world, there is reason to believe the wind power industry is growing continuously. The good news is you can build your very own wind power generator, without commercial instruction.

People have been using power generators for years, to generate electricity. For example, in a car’s alternator the wind turns the blades, they rotate the dynamo and electricity is created. Wind power works in a similar way. The science behind the two is identical but the process is a bit different.

Before building your own homebuilt wind power generator, you’ll need to be sure to gather great instructions. While it’s not difficult to build one, you want to be sure you’re building a good one from the start.

Various instructional manuals will tell you how to build different systems and it will all depend on if you want to build a generator for practical use, efficient wind or for artistic purposes. You likely want to get the maximum power possible.

You can find instruction manuals online or in home improvement stores for very little cost. Once you invest in the instructions and build your own generator, you’ll be excited about the possibilities available to you regarding “green” choices.

Scientists are constantly working on a non-fossil fuel transportation option. With America’s high dependence on traveling by car, there is a reason to believe they will find successful options within the next few years. The demand is certainly there so science is such to catch up eventually.

One of the newest methods involves recycling all the carbon dioxide wasted in the production of biofuels. This would make the process more efficient and scientists believe it would offer enough fuel to power cars all over America.

The hybrid hydrogen-carbon process could essentially make diesel fuel from coal or biomass, without putting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Because biofuels can lose CO2 into the atmosphere during the conversion process of making them, it can be an inefficient process. The new process allows for the wasted carbon dioxide to create more fuel. The hydrogen used is gleaned from water using non-fossil fuel energy (like solar energy).

It’s hopeful that while cars would still be generating CO2 emissions, the CO2 would be reabsorbed and used in the process once again, balancing the cycle of CO2. The process is a much cleaner version than the other coal options. In addition, it offers things electricity and hydrogen alone cannot provide.

The only drawback to this plan is storage. For large trains, planes and cars it would be difficult to store. The driving distances would be limited as well and the energy costs associated with this process could be very expensive.

Overall, there is hope in science finding a viable solution for the environment and for the needs and demands of driving Americans.

Alternative fuel history dates back all the way to the early 1900s. When gasoline cars were difficult to start, electricity seemed like a great fuel alternative. Of course, history shows a solution was not available immediately then. During the 1970s, there was a large gas shortage in America. Modern alternative fuels began being considered seriously at that time. The dependence on gas and oil was recognized and scientists first turned to ethanol (corn).

Scientists also looked into methane, propane and hydrogen for fueling. The problems came with finding a way to run the alternative gases through regular engines. Thus, the act of refining alternative fuels still presents a challenge today.

Many people think the alternative fuel issue has more to do with politics than technology. Because global warming is a big issue, politicians all want to be the “world saver”. Thus, they will funnel great amounts of money into alternative fuel development. Of course, since alternative fuels do help the environment in many ways there is no complaint from citizens. Thus, the motivation behind the research is irrelevant, since it benefits everyone.

Because there is still a need for an effective and reasonable alternative fuel, research in alternative fuels is still going strong. New technologies emerge each day and the history of alternative fuels continues to be written. Other countries are certainly doing their part to research these issues as well, making more progress than the United States in many sectors of alternative fuels.

Many people have heard of carbon footprints, but few people understand what the terms actually mean. A carbon footprint is a measurement detailing how each individual’s activities impact the environment, or climate change more specifically.

It directly links to how much greenhouse gases are produced in daily activities by the burning of fossil fuels (for heating, lighting, transportation and more). The footprint measures the greenhouse gases you produces individually and uses tonnes (or kg) as the unit for carbon dioxide equivalent.

A person’s primary footprint is one that measures any direct emissions of CO2. This includes any fossil fuel burning associated with household energy consumption or transportation (car, plane, boat). This are measurements everyone has direct control over.

A secondary footprint is one that measures any indirect CO2 emissions. This are those related to the lifecycle of products a person uses. For example, the more they purchase the more emissions are caused due to the consumption.

Things you can do to offset your carbon footprint include:

Sign up for renewable energy suppliers (solar, wind, hydropower) to reduce electricity footprint contribution.

Turn off things when they’re not being used (television, lights, computer, etc).

Turn down your heating or cooling system by 1-2 degrees.

Turn down your water heater system by 2 degrees.

Only run your dishwasher when it’s full to save electricity, heat and water.

Unplug your mobile phone as soon as it’s finished charging.

Defrost your fridge and freezer on a regular basis.

Do all shopping during a single weekly trip.

Hang your laundry outdoors to dry.

Walk instead of driving to the gym.

Today’s communities are becoming more and more environmentally conscious. Thus, they are turning to renewable power options and “going green”. Many of America’s largest cities are using electricity that comes from solar, wind, geothermal and hydro energy sources. The following are the top cities for renewable energy use, according to a recent poll.

1. Oakland, California: Oakland landing in the number one spot due to 17% of the city’s energy being produced by solar, wind and geothermal sources. Some of the wind power throughout the city is created by one of the largest wind power facilities in the country at Altamont Pass.

2. Sacramento, San Francisco and San Jose, California: These three cities tied for second place with 12% of their energy coming from renewable sources.

3. Portland, Oregon: Portland currently has 10% of its energy coming from renewables.

4. Boston, Massachusetts: Currently Boston operates with 8.6% of its energy being “green”.

5. San Diego, California: San Diego reported 8% of its city’s energy comes from renewable power outlets.

Experts think California has such high rates of renewable energy use due to the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard which was set in 2002. This standard set requirements for utility purchases of renewable energy for the state’s electric grid.

Part of this standard mandates that California must be up to a 20% renewable energy total for state utilities by 2020. Other cities across the country have also set goals for the increase of their renewable energy use. Chicago wants to hit the 20% mark by 2010 and Portland would love to be 100% renewable energy by 2010.

Many energy experts believe biofuels are the future of energy. Thus, millions of dollars are being currently spent on research and manufacturing of biofuels. Below you can find the most commonly researched biofuels and details about each.

Corn: With America producing much more corn than it can possibly use each year, corn makes an ideal ingredient for energy. With an input/output ratio of 1:1.3, it does seem likely corn could contribute to a greener environment. Corn ethanol can be produced for approximately $1.09 per gallon and offers 22% less greenhouse emissions than gasoline.

Sugarcane: Sugarcane seems like a terrific biofuel option, with an input/output ratio of 1:8, which means only 1 volume of fossil fuel is required to make 8 volumes of this biofuel replacement. Cane ethanol is most often produced in Brazil for approximately $0.87 per gallon and offers 56% less greenhouse emissions than gasoline.

Cellulose: Cellulose carries the lowest ratio of these biofuels at 1:36. However, it’s still very much in the research phases. Some common sources include paper pulp, household waste, forestry waste and leftover crop portions. While cellulose is not currently being produced as a biofuel, it would potentially offer 91% less greenhouse emissions than gasoline.

Biodiesel: Currently produced in Germany, biodiesel offers a ratio of 1:2.5 and offers 68% less greenhouse emissions than gasoline. Produced from canola, Germany produced .5 billion gallons in 2006 alone.

Overall, all of the biofuels have their own benefits. While some are further along in regards to manufacturing and research, others are just hitting the scene as possibilities.

Most of the country’s mind is on the economic plan the new President-elect is devising. However, Obama’s energy plan is also continuously getting attention from Americans. This plan outlines many things, including the goal of America being energy independent.

The plan begins by stating it provides relief to struggling families and urges Americans to work together to eliminate the need for foreign oil. It talks about creating a cleaner energy future as well.

Highlights of the plan include:

•Reduction in gas prices.
•Creation of five million new positions to build a clean energy future (with $150 billion invested over ten years).
•The goal of saving more oil than currently imported, over the next ten years.
•The goal of putting 1 million Hybrid cars on the road by 2015.
•The goal of ensuring 10% of all energy comes from renewable sources by 2012 and 25% by 2025.

Obama planned to force oil companies to provide relief to Americans financially by taking their profits and giving it to the citizens of the country as an energy rebate. He also planned to decrease all loopholes in the current oil exchange market that makes it unfair that oil companies can make such large profits while the public suffers.

The President-elect vows to focus on global climate change by putting into place a Cap and Trade Program. This program would help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80%. It forces companies to pay for every ton of emissions they release.

Overall, the Obama Energy Plan focuses on foreign oil dependence and global climate change.

Wind energy is a renewable energy source relying on the natural power of wind. Many years ago it was used during oceanic navigation of large ships. However, today wind energy is most often only used for leisurely sailing excursions. Experts claim however, if harnessed correctly, wind energy can offer many benefits.

Wind energy is ideal for the future because it’s free, available and can successfully be used as a viable energy source. However, there are many solar power enthusiasts that claim studying wind power is useless. Their argument includes the fact wind energy is quite unpredictable.

Wind is indeed unpredictable and quite inconsistent throughout nature. In fact, there are many instances where wind is absent completely. While this inconsistency is not bothersome within nature, it could be a potential problem when trying to utilize wind power as the main source of energy.

Critics of wind energy also argue the means of harnessing wind are not “green” enough to consider. When making this argument they are most often referring to the large wind mills required for wind energy to be constructively harnessed and utilized.

Since wind mills require large amounts of land, critics claim the destruction of land for the construction of large mills would be unethical. With the operation of the mills also being quite expensive, it seems critics are not likely to back down any time soon.

However, the benefits of wind energy are still very prevalent and scientists are continuously working toward finding a more effective way to predict, control and harness wind power . Thus, wind energy remains a very possible major source of energy for future generations.

While many people are familiar with what renewable energy sources consist of, many do not. Renewable energy is any energy which can be naturally replenished. It can include solar energy, wind energy, hydro (water) energy, geothermal energy, biofuels and even ocean tide energy.

With more and more people interested in “going green” there has been more focus on these renewable energy sources in the past few years. People are interested in saving money with lower energy bills, saving the environment with no pollutants and conserving fossil fuels.

Today, there are many incentives being offered by the government for those interested in utilizing renewable energy resources. In fact, the Department of Energy even offers grants to those interested in research and production of these energy forms.

With most of the country focused on using energy related to fossil fuels (most often oil), there is a great drive to get Americans to consider renewable energy sources. These incentives help in recovering initial costs many residents and businesses incur upon switching their homes and businesses from fossil fuel power to renewable power sources.

With incentives and overall public awareness increasing, the use of renewable energy sources is becoming a reality. Statistics show more and more people are using wind and solar power than ever before.

Americans are beginning to use these renewable sources of energy for electricity in homes, power in businesses and more. Many of the users are large corporations or rural residents. However, as with any “clean” energy, every user helps!

In a world where humans consume more energy in a year than their ancestors did in ten years, finding renewable energy sources is vital. The truth is humans are not likely to cut back on their energy consumption any time in the near future. In fact, studies suggest energy consumption will continuously rise over time. With this in mind, solar energy is a very viable form of power.

Solar energy is a renewable energy which is easily harnessed without loads of technology involved. The sun provides free energy to anyone willing to utilize it! In addition to being a free source, it is quite effective. Many people are choosing to take small steps by using solar powered gardening lights. However, in the near future it’s expected humans will come to rely on solar power for much more than lighting a pathway in their yard.

Those who support solar energy progression agree there are multiple benefits. If most of America relied on solar energy, the country would no longer depend on foreign countries for a great deal of their non-renewable energy resources. In addition, the country would be much “greener”. In the process of collecting, harnessing and using solar power, there is no destruction done to the environment.

Solar energy can be used throughout all areas of life. It is currently being used in many homes to heat water, for air conditioning systems, for cooking, lighting and more. Those who utilize solar energy reap rewards like lower electric and water bills. Overall, solar energy is a great alternative energy source for those interested in going “green”.

Americans today are more and more dependent on fossil fuels. These fuels consist of oil, coal and natural petroleum. Coming from the fossilized remains of plants and animals, it would seem these sources of energy would never run out. However, with the entire world relying heavily on fossil fuels, they will one day be depleted.

The fact is it takes years and years for these energy sources to develop. With humans over consuming them, there is no chance they will last for years to come. In fact, there are fewer and fewer amounts of fossil fuels in the world today. Instead of venturing more toward renewable power sources like solar energy and wind energy, humans are trying to prolong the inevitable.

They are trying to find ways to stretch these non renewable energy sources as far as they can, to make them ultimately last longer. For example, auto makers are developing hybrid cars which use much less of these fossil fuels than the traditional auto. However, the rate of their use in even a hybrid car will not put a dent in the overall “big picture”.

The non renewable energy sources from fossil fuels are not only becoming depleted, but they are also harming the environment. Any type of combustion of the fuels results in pollutants being released into the environment. These atmospheric releases contribute to the “Greenhouse Effect” everyone worries about.

Yes, global warming is directly related to the use of non renewable fossil fuels. Scientists understand fossil fuels will not last forever, thus they are trying to find renewable energy sources to take their places in the world. While technology and discovery is somewhat limiting, the largest limitations for this are created by humans. Humans are not willing to make changes in their lifestyles to accommodate new or renewable energy sources, creating a difficult situation for the future.

Selling power back to your utility company can be easy. Essentially you use a solar or wind powered source for energy during the day and it supplies energy back to a grid, causing your utility meter to run backwards.

Then, when it is dark outside or windy, the meter starts to roll forward again. This helps to save hundreds or thousands of dollars each year in electrical bills.

Before you can start to use this type of system, you must contact your local utility company and file an interconnection agreement with them. This gives you the rights and regulations you have to abide by in order to use your solar or wind powered source for energy.

Currently over 40 states have laws in affect stating utility companies must allow some kind of interconnection agreement with its users. Most utilities companies will not mail you a check if you produce more energy than they do.

But, they may agree to roll over the dollar amount you saved towards the next month or a future month when you experience more usage. The government has recently started giving tax breaks to those using solar or wind power as electricity, giving them another great chance to save money.

The problem many people are encountering is solar powering is not stable. With a grid, solar power is transferred into energy. In most cases, only 10 to 15 percent of solar power has the ability to be transferred into use-able energy for sustaining a household.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is a research facility that is part of the United States Department Of Energy (DOE). The Research and Development expertise are with Renewable Electricity, Renewable Fuels, Integrated Energy Systems and Strategic Energy Analysis. These technologies are distributed by the Technology Transfer Office of the NREL whose main function is to introduce renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies to the public and the marketplace. These technologies can then be transferred into commercial products and businesses.

Some of the main technologies that are being researched are wind, solar, geothermal, hydro (water), biomass and even hydrogen fuel cells. Renewable energy is energy which can renew itself indefinitely, unlike fossil fuels which are non-renewable sources of energy. These fossil fuels, such as oil, will eventually be gone. The NREL works to find alternative sources of energy which can be used for many practical applications.

Renewable energy is a concept becoming more popular with the energy crisis. More people are leaning towards these forms of energy. This energy is cleaner and greener. A problem is the initial cost for all these forms of energy is higher than the conventional fossil fuels. Some forms of renewable energy are dependent upon location. Wind energy would require some place with enough wind to sustain a wind farm.

Geothermal energy cannot be used in just any location. Solar power can be found in abundance, but the efficiency of converting sunlight into energy is still very low. With renewable energy we can continue to power our homes, drive our cars and continue life as we know it. In time these renewable energies will help save our planet.

In 2007, the Green Jobs Act was brought before the House of Representatives. The purpose of this act was to do several things. One was to have the government fund a grant to train 35,000 individuals each year on how to work with natural energy sources. These include farmers, factory workers and a number of different scientists. The individuals to be trained are from low income and impoverished families.

The purpose of this was to become an intervention plan and to help those in need find the skills to become self-sufficient, wage earning members of society. States were given grants to help them focus on “going green”, help their low income families with job training in this department and then help them create jobs for the individuals who were trained. The Green Jobs Act of 2007 also set in place to collect research regarding the job markets. Thus, it was intended these would focus on what these types of programs did to the labor force in their areas of the country. Many states were given grants to begin implementing ways to “go green”.

While these sound like great ideas, the American people were concerned about their money. Like anything else that costs a significant amount of money they were not sure they would benefit from it. Thus, they were more than a little skeptical of the situation. Many viewed it as a potential waste of money.

With the current state of the environment and the increased prices and decline of renewable energy, the world is looking for new ways to “go green.” Experts are looking for new ways to develop the natural energies present here for thousands of years. With these new technologies being sought out, there is a boom of new jobs becoming available. These encompass not only scientists, ecologists, geologists and biologists but also architects, lawyers, doctors, construction workers, farmers and factory workers.

Working together for the greater good of human kind, to ensure we have renewable sources for generations to come, is important. Many colleges and universities are starting programs which focus on ways to use our natural power sources. These programs also focus on the invention of new ways in which to harness these sources. Many “green” companies are now offering on the job training for their employees.

While creating new jobs is obviously a benefit at the moment, many may feel we are facing an opportunity to lose money for other big businesses since natural power sources are free. This can excite many users. But, those who will eventually not be needed and lose their job, due to being outsourced, may not be as excited. There could potentially be an increase in the unemployment levels once new sources are brought forward and become widely used across the world.

The United States Department of Energy (DOE) grants millions of dollars for advancements in solar energy. Solar energy is a clean, abundant, widespread renewable energy source which can be used to generate electricity while decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. Solar cells are used to convert sunlight directly into electricity.

When the sunlight is absorbed by these solar cells, the solar energy knocks electrons off their atoms which will allow the electrons to flow through these cells to produce the electricity. This process is called photovoltaic effect. With the grants from the DOE, there is research to find more effective processes to use this photovoltaic effect. Competitiveness due to these grants will increase the effort to find practical and efficient uses of this process.

Solar power is a renewable energy source that is fairly cheap and can be used anywhere sunlight reaches. With the research done due to the grants provided by the DOE, the conversion of solar power to electricity will become more efficient. This can help with the current energy crisis. Fossil fuels, such as gas and oil, will eventually disappear. Solar power is out there in abundance.

Solar energy is becoming more common and popular in homes today. Homes can be heated and electricity can be provided inexpensively and reliably. This green method of providing energy can help save our planet. Cars, homes and many other commercial uses will be found to use solar power. All of this can be done without harming our environment.

What are fossil fuels? Fossil fuels are generally such fuels as oil, natural petroleum and coal. These materials were derived from the fossilized remains of plants and animals. The United States and much of the world have relied upon these fuels for decades and more. As the years go on, the sources of these fuels have become less and less.

The problem with fossil fuels is they will someday run out. It takes time for these energy sources to develop within the crust of the earth. At the current rate of consumption, there is no way that these fuels can develop naturally and not be used up. Currently there are ways being developed to sustain these fuels.

More efficient uses are these energies are being produced. Cars with better gas mileage are being manufactured. Hybrid cars which use electricity as well as gas are just one of the many products which have been developed to sustain the use of fossil fuels. Still these fuels are being depleted.

Another problem with the use of fossils fuels is no matter how safely and efficiently these fuels are being used, they still have an impact on the environment. The combustion of these fuels contributes pollutants to the atmosphere and contribute to the greenhouse effect. This effect increases global warming and the melting of the polar ice caps.

Alternatives are being developed. Fossils fuels cannot last forever at the current rate of consumption. Alternatives are being developed to sustain the lifestyles that we have become accustomed too. In time, fossil fuels will be a thing of the past.

Renewable energy is a fancy way of saying that you harness the elements of nature and turn them into usable sources of energy, at a lower cost to you. This comes at a time when we are beginning to realize we may only have enough fossil fuels, the form of energy that is currently being used, for less than half of a century.

This is a very scary thought, considering the possibilities that it encompasses! There are several types of renewable energy services. The one you may be the most familiar with is solar power. Other popular forms are wind powered energy, hydro or water powered energy, geothermic and biomass (use of waste to produce energy).

The two most widely used renewable energy services are solar and wind power. This is due to the ease of capabilities with these forms. All houses are subject to the sun and to the wind. Using your own form of solar or wind powered grids, in order to turn them into usable energy for your home, can help you reduce your heating and cooling bills by hundreds each year.

The government has also witnessed the need for renewable energy services. In fact, they began implementing tax breaks for those who harness one of the multiple forms of natural energy, causing you to again save money each year. Saving money this way also allows for an economic boost, as you have more money to spend in other areas.

What is renewable energy? Basically it's energy which can be naturally replenished. There is solar, wind, hydro (water), geothermal, biofuels and even the ocean tides. These forms of energy are being used more and more each year. Today, more people are trying to live in the green. Meaning they do not want to pollute the planet. The Department of Energy (DOE) offers grants for research in producing these renewable energies, especially solar power.

Right now most of the United States energy is based on fossil fuels such as oil. Even if we recycle and create sustainable energy, these fossil fuels will eventually be gone. Renewable energy can eventually solve this problem. More research is developing the efficiency of producing these forms of energy. These sources are starting to be used more each year.

The Department of Energy forecasts for renewable energy shows that there is a steady rise in the use of wind and solar energy. Some negative claims about these projects, especially wind power, is the sites of these technologies are unsightly and intermittent. On the plus side, these forms of technology can be applied in remote and rural locations. These clean energies are continuing to be used in more commercial ways.

Electricity is being provided to homes, and power is being provided in remote locations. Gas emissions are being reduced. The hold of fossil fuels is slowly being released. Currently the initial cost for these technologies is high. As the need for energy rises, these renewable sources of energy are available. Time and research will help get things back on track to a better tomorrow.

Today’s homeowners realize the importance of saving energy. If they aren’t interested in saving energy to protect the environment they’re definitely interested in saving money on their electric, gas and water bills. Thus, they are beginning to choose energy-saving appliances. With the average home using more than $2,000 each year in energy, these appliances are quite attractive. They can save a homeowner up to $100 or more each year. Even builders are choosing to use these appliances in their new homes, to attract savvy buyers.

When consumers are shopping for new appliances they should think of the bigger picture. Sure, an energy-saving appliance may cost a few dollars more than a generic model. However, in the long run the homeowner will not only be saving money on their energy bills but also save the environment. These appliances use 10-50% less energy and water than their standard model counterparts. Therefore, the extra cost upfront is more than doubled throughout the life of the appliance.

Most appliances (including ovens, dishwashers, clothes washers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers) come in energy-saving varieties. Most of these models are clearly marked and defined with energy-saving logos. Many stores offer special discounts or incentives to customers willing to purchase these smart appliances. In addition, builders can often find great bulk deals regarding energy-smart appliances in their homes.

So, if you want to help the environment and save money while doing it you should certainly consider purchasing an energy-saving appliance. Not only will they save you hundreds each year but they’ll use half as much power as you’d normally utilize, thus save the environment.
