Although our own US companies can't make a good electric, at least there seems to be a pretty amazing one on the horizon, coming from a Chinese company you probably haven't heard of yet, called BYD.

The E6 from BYD motors is a completely environmentally friendly vehicle, with zero pollution and low noise output. Scheduled to go into production in 2010, this vehicle may change the way you think about electric cars.

Here are a few of it's features:

All chemical substances used in the Fe battery can be recycled.

Eectrical power consumption: less than 18wh / 100km (62 mi)

0 - 160km (100mph) acceleration in 8 seconds

Top speed of more than 160 kph (100 mph)

Charges on a normal household electric power socket

Quick Charge at 50% capacity in 10 minutes

Range: More than 400km (249 mi) - longest range of its kind in the world

The battery pack is well protected in a specially designed safety cell that is fully integrated into the vehicle. It's powered by the companies core technology, the Fe battery, and there are four different power combinations scheduled for the car.

75kW = 101 hp

75+40Kw = 101 + 54hp

160Kw = 215hp

160+40kw = 215+54hp

Find out more about them here...

I used to go to the hydroplane races in Seattle when I lived there, and even back then I can remember thinking, "Wow, they use a lot of fuel".

Motorsports all over the world consume a large quantity of high-octane fuel not only on race day, but all week long during practice and training too. How cool would it be if they began using alternative fuels, and showed that they can be just as competitive?

Well this Sunday, hydroplane racer Chip Hanauer will be doing just that, as he runs a boat on 80% coconut oil. it may not be "renewable" but it's certainly a good alternative...

I just heard (for the first time) of algae oil, having power producing capabilities. I was watching the news Sunday morning, and saw a story about a guy named Glenn Kurtz in El Paso Tx.

He says that he can produce 100,000 gallons of fuel per acre per year. Compare that to corn at only 20 to 30 gallons of fuel per acre per year!

Moving our country towards corn for fuel is just plain stupid, and most rational people already know that corn is not the answer, but this sounds like it has real potential.

Even better, you can grow it in the desert, in otherwise productive land. He claims that if we took land about 1/10th the size of New Mexico, and devoted it to algae production, we could meet all the transportation needs of the US.

I found a three part seies of interviews with the guy, and here they are...

Here's part two -

And finally, part three...

Wow, amazing stuff - but will this really come to fruition? What do you think?

Alternative energy sources are usually substitutes for fossil resources such as oil, coal and gas. There are a variety of options, including solar, wind, geothermal, biofuels, hydrogen, and more .

Alternative energy sources are increasingly recognized as the only way to create sustainable energy to meet the world's future needs. Investors have been some of the first people to recognize this and many big ones, including Bill Gates and Richard Branson are now backing alternative energy companies.

Alternative energy sources are critical to the continued growth and health of our population, as we plan to grow this resource further for our own (and your) education and benefit. Thanks for coming by, and please tell us what you'd like to see here!
