Wind energy is a renewable energy source relying on the natural power of wind. Many years ago it was used during oceanic navigation of large ships. However, today wind energy is most often only used for leisurely sailing excursions. Experts claim however, if harnessed correctly, wind energy can offer many benefits.

Wind energy is ideal for the future because it’s free, available and can successfully be used as a viable energy source. However, there are many solar power enthusiasts that claim studying wind power is useless. Their argument includes the fact wind energy is quite unpredictable.

Wind is indeed unpredictable and quite inconsistent throughout nature. In fact, there are many instances where wind is absent completely. While this inconsistency is not bothersome within nature, it could be a potential problem when trying to utilize wind power as the main source of energy.

Critics of wind energy also argue the means of harnessing wind are not “green” enough to consider. When making this argument they are most often referring to the large wind mills required for wind energy to be constructively harnessed and utilized.

Since wind mills require large amounts of land, critics claim the destruction of land for the construction of large mills would be unethical. With the operation of the mills also being quite expensive, it seems critics are not likely to back down any time soon.

However, the benefits of wind energy are still very prevalent and scientists are continuously working toward finding a more effective way to predict, control and harness wind power . Thus, wind energy remains a very possible major source of energy for future generations.
